DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

The Transitional Assistance Department (TAD) enhances the quality of life in the community by administering support programs to persons in need of financial, nutritional, and/or health care assistance, while working with families and individuals to attain self-sufficiency. TAD is committed to working collaboratively to provide our services accurately and efficiently, with a high emphasis on integrity, respect and customer service.

Building upon our successes and leveraging the experience and innovation of our staff, TAD continuously evaluates business processes to ensure we are meeting the needs of the community with a high emphasis on the customer experience.

Accomplishments:

  • Housing Support Program: In 2018 and 2019, we permanently housed a total of 573 California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) families in collaboration with the Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino to promote housing stability.
  • 2019 NACo award for CalFresh Proactive Text Notification program resulted in a decrease in terminations for not completing a SAR or RE/RC. Discontinuances for not providing a complete SAR decreased by as much as 34%, and discontinuances for not completing an RE/RC decreased by 15%.
  • Implemented the Home Visiting Program (HVP) in collaboration with Preschool Services Department (PSD) to serve pregnant and first-time parenting women, families and infants born into poverty by connecting CalWORKs participants with necessary education and other resources.

Goals:

  • Successfully open a new San Bernardino TAD office in 2020.
  • Maintain the CalFresh error rate below the federal tolerance level of 6 percent.
  • Provide housing and rental assistance to 202 CalWORKs families experiencing homelessness through the Housing Support Program (HSP) and Rapid Rehousing model.
