As part of the partnership between the local community and the Federal Government in the Head Start Program, the Preschool Services Department is required to contribute 25 cents for every $1.00 that is spent of the Head Start Grant. This is called in-kind. PSD needs over $8 million per year of in-kind in the form of volunteer time and community donations to meet this requirement.
Some ways you can help are:
Helping in the classroom by (reading to children, helping to serve & clean-up at meal times, assisting the teacher with activities such as passing out the supplies, helping with projects, etc.)
Preparing Materials (cutting, drawing, etc. for items to be used in the lesson plans)
Donating Supplies for use in the Head Start Program (paper, crayons, paints, craft items, books, etc.)
School to Home Activities (as specified in the CIP)
Other ways you can help (which are not necessarily in-kind) are:
Baby-sit for other parents so they can volunteer
Share a hobby or talents
Share your ideas
Advocate for Head Start and other child and family programs
Every time you volunteer your time or donate supplies it is very important that your signature and other requested information appears on the in-kind forms to document your valuable contribution to the program.
We appreciate your participation in the Head Start Program.
