For five years (2007-2011) the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors has supported this holiday collection drive coordinated by County Veterans Affairs. This project gave the residents and employees of San Bernardino County an opportunity to show their support for our men and women in uniform, and their families here at home.

Initially, through the Troop Support Project, Veterans Affairs collected gifts, phone cards and hygiene items for our local units that were deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. More recently, Veterans Affairs collected gift cards of all types, prepaid telephone cards and prepaid credit cards to support families of deployed troops and to help them have happier, less-stressful holidays here at home while their loved ones were so far away.

Because of the reduction in military deployments to Iraq/Afghanistan, none of our local units will be away this holiday season (thank goodness!) and there will be no holiday Troop Support Project this year.

County Veterans Affairs Department thanks everyone who has participated in this great event over the years, from department coordinators to gift contributors. Without you, this project would not have been such a resounding success.

Operation Recognition
Veterans Diploma Project

In an effort to recognize the men and women whose high school education was interrupted due to their military service or their internment in a Japanese American relocation camp, the offices of the county Superintendent of Schools and the county Department of Veterans Affairs once again hosted Operation Recognition - Veterans Diploma Project.

Through Operation Recognition – Veterans Diploma Project, eligible applicants (those who left school to serve in the military during war time and were discharged honorably or those interned in a Japanese American relocation camp) received their high school diplomas.
