Welcome to the County of San Bernardino Preschool Services Department’s (PSD) website. We have proudly administered child and family development programs in San Bernardino County since 1965. Our largest programs include:

Head Start – A federal direct service program providing comprehensive child and family development services for families with children from birth to age five. Both part day and full day programs are available.

State Preschool – A parent/child education program open to preschool children three to five years of age, which is free to families whose monthly income meets the criteria established by the California Department of Education.

Child and Adult Care Food Program – A federally funded program offering nutritious food to children in regulated child care settings.

PSD offers the following child care and development options for eligible families with 3-4 year old children:

  • Part Day (3 ½ hours – 9 months per year)
  • Full Day (6 ½ hours or more – 12 months per year) and
  • Home Based (child development education and support services to parents/caregivers in the family’s home)

All sites are supported by dedicated staff that provide the following services to children and families in the program:

  • Health (medical and dental screenings and follow-up)
  • Nutrition education
  • Mental/Psychological Services
  • Disabilities Services
  • Education and Job Training
  • Literacy (adults and child)
  • Food and Nutrition Services
  • Transportation (available in most outlying areas)

Services unavailable through the Department are made available to families through a referral system.
