STEP – Senior Training and Employment Program
The Senior Training and Employment Program (STEP) offers part-time
on-the-job training positions to qualified persons. To qualify for the
program a person must be at least fifty-five (55) years old, an
unemployed resident of San Bernardino County, and meet federal
low-income guidelines.
The purpose of the Senior Training and Employment Program is to
offer a temporary "stepping stone" back into the work force. Positions
with the Senior Training and Employment Program are not meant to be
permanent employment. The Senior Training and Employment Program is a
pathway to employment, not a job in itself. Consequently,
individuals are required to conduct job search in order to seek a job
off the program so someone else may fill their opening.
The program is funded through grant monies from the State and
Federal Government.
Many people apply for the program and there may be a wait before we
have a vacant training slot for which you can be considered.
What we offer:
-
On-the-job training with government and non-profit agencies for twenty
hours per week at minimum wage. -
Workshops
to teach you the best methods for searching out, finding, applying,
interviewing, and getting the right job for you.
-
Referral
to agencies who have funds to pay for additional classroom training if
appropriate to your job goals.
-
Occupational training to help you acquire new job skills or upgrade the
ones you have.
-
Referral
to other employment and training programs.
-
Referrals
to other senior and social programs to help you in other aspects of your
life.
In order to meet your needs at the local level, STEP Staff are
assigned as partners at the Employment Resource Centers (ERC), formerly
called One Stop Career Centers, in:
-
Hesperia
-
Rancho
Cucamonga
-
Redlands
-

Bernardino
In communities without an Employment Resource Center, like Ontario,
STEP Staff are assigned to serve you at the Ontario Department of Aging
& Adult Services (DAAS) Office.
