LONG-TERM CARE OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM
Ombudsman are independent, objective, neutral persons who advocate
for dignity, quality of life and quality of care for all residents in
long-term care facilities.
Ombudsman
volunteers are authorized by Federal and State law to receive,
investigate and resolve complaints by or on behalf of residents in
long-term care facilities, skilled nursing facilities and community care
licensed board and care homes.
Ombudsman investigate reports of abuse, neglect or mistreatment of
individuals in long-term care facilities. Ombudsman also visit nursing
homes and board and care facilities regularly to insure residents know
about their services.
Ombudsman assist with the following problems:
- Quality of care
- Food
- Finances
- Meaningful Activities
- Visitors of Choice
- Resident's Rights, and
- Other Concerns
Ombudsman also work with licensing agencies responsible for these
facilities, assist facility administrators and staff in solving problems
with difficult residents and families, provide community education to
groups, and witness the durable power of attorney for health care
decisions.
