Family Caregiver Support Program

The Family Caregiver Support Program (FCSP) is a program created as Title III-E of the Older Americans Acts Amendments of 2000. The Administration on Aging administers the program at the Federal level, and the California Department of Aging and the San Bernardino County Department of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS) administer the program at the state and county levels, respectively. The intent of the program is to serve caregivers – spouses, daughters, sons, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or neighbors – that have been providing care on an informal basis.

Direct services provided by DAAS’ Senior Information and Assistance (SIA) staff include information and assistance, outreach, education, and comprehensive assessment, income support/material aid and translation services.

Contract services provided by vendors include case management, transportation, assisted transportation, counseling, caregiver support group, caregiver training, respite (in-home, day care, or institutional), and supplemental services designed to complement care provided by caregivers; e.g., minor home modification, placement, homemaker, chore, home security and safety, assistive devices, visiting, and legal assistance.
