Scam: Water Quality Testing

Scam: Water Quality Testing

Target: All San Bernardino County Residents

The Ontario Police Department is warning residents about a scam involving water quality testing. Scam artists are going to homes claiming to be from government agencies with documents that appear official, claiming the home's water must be tested for lead or other chemicals. So far, sightings of these individuals have been reported in Ontario, but it is important that all San Bernardino County seniors should beware!

These scam artists will:
  • Run tests and tell the homeowner the water is polluted.
  • Tell the homeowner he/she must buy a water purification system.
  • Claim that water purification is “mandatory for health.”

To avoid being a victim of this type of scam:

  • Do not let individuals into your home without verifying their identity.
  • Call the agency of any person who comes to your door.

If you think you may be a victim of a scam, contact San Bernardino County Adult Protective Services (APS) at 877-565-2020, or your local police department.
